Holiday Tree

At the Historical Society- 12/3/25

Every year we participate in the Festival of Trees in Schenectady, usually at the YWCA-NENY, and this year at the Historical Society. Here’s our tree, themed: Kids Need Kiwanis!

Schenectady County Holiday Parade

We had a great time at our table in the PRE-Parade activities yesterday at the Schenectady County Holiday Parade! On the corner of Jay and Johny’s we hosted a frame-ornament making table that involved a lot of stickers! Windy moments and lots of crowds didn’t keep us from having a wonderful time with the children and their families!

Dinner Night 11.13.25

Did you know that the majority of our fundraising – which provides grants to graduating seniors and to child-serving local nonprofits each year – comes straight from our members? One thing we have started doing for this cause is DINNER. Not talking about just any dinner, either, but a carefully designed set of courses, paired with beverages and including desserts, by a member, at a member’s home.

Just this past week, we gathered for a wonderful “Comfort Food” themed feast, put on by member Betsy Sandberg, at the hospitality of member Tom Ciancetta. What a great time and meal! Thank you, also to Steve Sandberg and Patricia Clausi for helping to make this fundraiser so fabulous.

So many pictures – why? Because there’s at least one GOOD one for each of us!

Donate Today

We invite you to join our efforts to help the youth of Schenectady County. Each year, Kiwanis finds a way to help those most in need.

In Schenectady County, NY, according to the most recent census there is a population of 160,093, with  21.1% being under 18 years old, 5.8% under 5 years old. Our work is all about the youth sector.

Each month, as a club, we carry out an outreach project to help one of the many local nonprofit organizations in our community serving youth. Some examples include City Mission, the YWCA-NENY, Boys & Girls Club, Crossroads Center for Children, CREATE Community Studios, and Kids’ Art Fest.

In addition, each year, our Foundation provides monetary gifts to local nonprofit organizations and scholarships to graduating seniors from the county’s school district, to help build the future of our community’s children.

For example, in August, Irene won a Kiwanis Foundation scholarship to help with her college costs. She’s the first in her family to attend college. Mathias won a scholarship, too, and reported that his scholarship would support needed textbooks for his first year of college. Victor used his scholarship towards tuition payments. While names have been changed to honor confidences, Schenectady Kiwanis Foundation has supported individual students for over 55 years.

Nonprofits have also benefited. Crossroads Center for Children received a Schenectady Kiwanis Foundation grant, which is helping the school to purchase materials to help children with autism learn communication systems. The Boys & Girls Club received a grant to help students enjoy programs for education and career development, character development, fitness, and more.  The YWCA’s grant is helping them to eliminate racism and empower women and children.  Schenectady Kiwanis Foundation has been an annual sponsor for the Schenectady Kids Arts Festival, and also provided sponsorship and support for the Key Clubs at Schalmont, Schenectady, and Niskayuna High Schools.  And those are just a few of the organizations our foundation is helping.

All along the way, kind people such as yourself have been in our corner, attending our fundraising events, and making donations to help build futures. You can help this year, when more help is needed than ever before. Every donation will provide scholarships and grants just like these.

Use the DONATE button to find our online form. The form will allow you to choose to cover fees or not, leave a tip or not, and to select your preferred payment option, including by check.

Thank you for your kindness and caring!

Battle of the Tap Masters

Schenectady Kiwanis Club & Foundation and Scotia Glenville Kiwanis went to “battle” this evening at Wolf Hollow Brewing Company, with Bob Kirkham at the tap for SG and Madelyn Thorne for Schenectady. Many friends came out to support us both, both clubs, and we had a blast. Thanks so much to everyone who helped kids in our community! Thanks too to Wolf Hollow for letting us #FundraiseForACause!

The History of Schenectady-event

On Wednesday evening we had a great turnout for our viewing party of The History of Schenectady. Many thanks to all who came, and also to those who got it all together. Thank you Aly and Mike Bingham for the actual movie which they had from WMHT. Thanks to other members for snacks, tickets, set up and clean up. To Betsy Sandberg for setting us up with the amazing space at Proctor’s. And so many thanks to Juliann Dellarocco for going full in to put on an awesome raffle and raising $85 for the foundation.
