We had a great time at our table in the PRE-Parade activities yesterday at the Schenectady County Holiday Parade! On the corner of Jay and Johny’s we hosted a frame-ornament making table that involved a lot of stickers! Windy moments and lots of crowds didn’t keep us from having a wonderful time with the children and their families!

Did you know that the majority of our fundraising – which provides grants to graduating seniors and to child-serving local nonprofits each year – comes straight from our members? One thing we have started doing for this cause is DINNER. Not talking about just any dinner, either, but a carefully designed set of courses, paired with beverages and including desserts, by a member, at a member’s home.
Just this past week, we gathered for a wonderful “Comfort Food” themed feast, put on by member Betsy Sandberg, at the hospitality of member Tom Ciancetta. What a great time and meal! Thank you, also to Steve Sandberg and Patricia Clausi for helping to make this fundraiser so fabulous.
So many pictures – why? Because there’s at least one GOOD one for each of us!

We invite you to join our efforts to help the youth of Schenectady County. Each year, Kiwanis finds a way to help those most in need.
Thank you for your kindness and caring!
Wednesday, 7/23 at Kiwanis Park, we celebrated 7 graduates from Schenectady County high schools, each receiving a grant to use as wished. The Scotia Kiwanis Club was honored for their good works in the community. Lieutenant Governor of the Mohawk Division, Peg Cassidy, was recognized for her leadership and hard work.

Schenectady Kiwanis Club & Foundation and Scotia Glenville Kiwanis went to “battle” this evening at Wolf Hollow Brewing Company, with Bob Kirkham at the tap for SG and Madelyn Thorne for Schenectady. Many friends came out to support us both, both clubs, and we had a blast. Thanks so much to everyone who helped kids in our community! Thanks too to Wolf Hollow for letting us #FundraiseForACause!

On Wednesday evening we had a great turnout for our viewing party of The History of Schenectady. Many thanks to all who came, and also to those who got it all together. Thank you Aly and Mike Bingham for the actual movie which they had from WMHT. Thanks to other members for snacks, tickets, set up and clean up. To Betsy Sandberg for setting us up with the amazing space at Proctor’s. And so many thanks to Juliann Dellarocco for going full in to put on an awesome raffle and raising $85 for the foundation.

Nonprofit ApplicationNonprofit organizations serving youth in Schenectady County are invited to apply for funding. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and grants are distributed at year’s end each year.
High School seniors residing in Schenectady County, are you interested in receiving some money to help with your plans for your future? Why not apply for a Kiwanis Foundation grant.
The Schenectady Kiwanis Foundation is pleased to offer grants up to $1500 to selected graduating high school seniors who reside in the City and County of Schenectady for their post-high school education and training. All applications are reviewed for academic performance, volunteer experience, family needs, and other positive qualities that will help a student’s success. Key Club members are given extra consideration. Personal adversity and altruistic volunteerism showing strength of character and determination will be important in the decision to make an award. Applicants should be sure to mention any connection to Kiwanis they may have.

Submissions of all applications are due by May 1st each year. Awards are given at our July picnic.
*Applications MUST be accompanied by the release form in order to be considered for a grant. The release form must be signed by the student and parent or guardian, allowing permission to publish recipient information, which is limited to the student’s name, future plans for education, volunteer service, extracurricular activities, and parents’/guardians’ name(s). Addresses, phone numbers, GPA, and income information will NOT be made public.
All grant questions may be directed to Michael DellaRocco, Foundation President, at [email protected].
